F.A.C.E.ing the Water The Gaston County Red Cross youth will be offering:v W.H.A.L.E.S. Tales for kids of all ages v F.A.C.E. (First Aid and CPR for Everyone) for adults The youth will be holding these classes free of charge at area apartment complex’s on Saturday’s during the next couple of months. We ask that ANY children be accompanied by an adult. The purpose of these classes is to prepare families for emergency situations in or around the water and teach children safe water habits. With the absence of a lifeguard on duty, we feel it to be vital to the safety of the children and adults who will be swimming in local apartment complex pools to learn water safety habits. If you would like to participate please contact someone at the office and let them know that you are interested. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact the Gaston County Red Cross at 704-864-2623.
Chapter Participates in the Several staff and volunteers from the Gaston County Chapter of the American Red Cross participated in the Community Foundation’s Run for the Money 7. This annual event features a 5k run and 2k walk as well as booths and entertainment centered in downtown Gastonia at the Rotary Pavilion. The event held on Saturday, April 18th was attended by more than 5,000 people. Staff member Daughtry Hopper served as a member of the RUN7 steering committee and coordinated the run/walk water tables. She enlisted the help of the Red Cross youth members for help with the finish line water tables. Executive Director Chuck Bridger, along with members of the chapter board of directors set up and staffed the chapter’s information booth. The information booth allows members of the community to learn more about the chapter and its programs. Red Cross youth provided face painting for the children that stopped by the chapter booth. Although the day is full of fun and excitement, the most important part of the RUN7 event is the opportunity for local non-profit agencies to raise money to support their programs. The Community Foundation will give a match to each agency that raises funds. This is a great way for donors to get more bang for their buck while supporting philanthropy in Gaston County.
