American Red Cross offers training to potential disaster volunteers

GASTONIA, Oct. 24, 2003 -- The Gaston County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer Introduction to Disaster Services on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapter office.

The purpose of the video-based course is to provide fundamental information about disasters, the community response, and the role of Red Cross Disaster Services.

This basic disaster course will be taught by an authorized Disaster Services Instructor who has experience in the delivery of Red Cross services. It is a prerequisite to all other Disaster Services training.

Anyone interested in becoming a disaster services volunteer or is interested in learning more about the Red Cross' role in disaster services is welcome to attend. There is no charge for the course, but pre-registration is requested.
