Red Cross provides “Safe Sanctuaries” Initiative

(Gastonia, NC)- In celebration of March is Red Cross Month, the American Red Cross and the Gaston County Medical Society Alliance are partnering to offer residents of Gaston County an opportunity to gain basic life-saving skills through the “Safe Sanctuaries” initiative. Red Cross will offer their new First Aid and CPR for Everyone program at different church sites every Saturday during the month allowing people who do not need a formal certification course to become familiar with life-saving information and skills that are critical during an emergency.

“Throughout the year we receive calls from pastors wanting to train members of their congregations to be first responders, however the cost and time commitment involved to become certified in CPR and First Aid can be an obstacle” states Ann Holt, Director of Health and Safety at the Gaston County Red Cross. “This Safe Sanctuaries initiative allows people to gain lifesaving skills at a greatly reduced cost.”

The program fee is $12 per person and is open to the general public. Participants will take home an instructional DVD starring NFL star Peyton Manning and other materials. Please call the American Red Cross at 704-864-2623 to pre-register, space is limited.
